No Mo Cheeks

"Helping an embarrassed little girl? Don't you know that's against team policy?"

In what must be a devastating blow to his street cred and 'thuggishness', Maurice Cheeks was let go by the Portland Trailgangstas today. Oh well, I guess he just wasn't able to keep up with mental giants like Darius Miles and Damon Stoudamire. Perhaps the Blazers players just got tired of giving Mo the answers to that days New York Times Crossword Puzzle or are looking for a coach who doesn't pretend to know about medieval literature when his knowledge clearly doesn't extend beyond a few quotes of Chaucer. Or maybe it's that he's a legitimately good coach and a nice guy and Portland has spent the last 10 years trying to turn the Rose Garden into the country's only prison without bars.

Of course, the natural fit at this point for Portland would be John 'leader of the goon squad' Chaney...

Hey Ruben Patterson, sweep the leg!!

The shame is Cheeks brought that organization its brightest moment since the Drexler era when he helped that young lady and this is how they treat him.

BTW, to further hammer this point home...The Blazers lost that infamous game by 8.

Any other team in the league would won by 30 based on the spirit of the crowd alone. I mean if I were betting at the moment when that happens, I'm putting someone's fortunes on the Blazers.

*shakes head*

What's sad to me is last year Mo wanted permission to talk to Philly about their vacancy. Why not he played in Philly, native son and all, and A.I. can't be any more aggravating than Portland.

Anyway, Portland says no, and Jim O'Brien gets the job, and now the cut Mo loose. Nice going. Not too surprising that Portland is near the bottom in home attendance this year.

"Sweep the leg!" Great strategy, except Patterson would probably do it to Zach Randolph, as retribution for sucker-punching him that one time.

"No Rueben, do that to the other team!"
