The Fred Hickman Question
What? They couldn't find a darker photo?
Ever since Fred Hickman joined the cast of Sportscenter a few weeks ago, I've been going back and forth on whether I like him or not. At times, he provides a welcome voice of calm amongst the sea of otherwise smartass, Kilborn wanna-bes, but at other times, he's about as exciting watching reading sport highlights as Ben Stein on a fistful of qualudes.
What do you think of Sports Tv's most level-headed gentleman?

I did a double take the first time I saw him on ESPN. He used to host the nightly sports wrap up on CNN, back in the early 80's. It was a half hour wrap, much like "SportsCenter." I think his co-host was a guy named Nick Charles. This was when CNN had a full sports department. Anyway, Fred seems to have the same style now that he had back then. Wonder what he was doing all that time in between.
Hickman is the best at calling the highlights and was the only worthwhile reason to watch CNNSI. I wish they could've put him on Dream Job just to show you how bad those contestants really are.
Personally I wonder what took ESPN so long to hire him, but then again I remember how many of those CNNSI guys locked down for like 2 years after the network went off the air and ended up paying them like $200K/year due to some crazy rollback.
Maybe this black man will mean they can finally fire Booyah Scott and not have Jesse Jackson crawling up their ass.
Stop Stuart Scott!
To the other "anonymous" who was wondering what Fred H. had been doing since his CNN day's:
He's been working for the "evil empire" YES network in NY.
They let him go in cost cutting move. He signed almost immediately with ESPN.
Fred Hickman is the only homosexual sportscenter anchor I know of.
I had met Fred Hickman in the mid seventies when he was attending Coe College, I never knew him to be a homosexual. Fred liked women back in the seventies, then I had heard he had gotten married to a Collge sweetheart.
I loved seeing him on CNN he seemed relaxed, and confident.
Fred Hickman is not homosexual, he is married. He is also a great sports caster and a great person.
I worked with Hickdog at ESPN - a great guy---total pleasure--original legend- Freddy is fabulous
