Let's Play "What's My Motivation?"!

Stella Adler and Stanislavski be damned! What's the motivation in these three scenes:
  • Barry Bonds says he might have to sit out half or all the season (and the corresponding drug tests) because of an ankle injury right after watching Mark McGwire publicly hang himself at the Congressional steroid hearings.
  • Kobe Bryant sits out a game with a bruised shin immediately after the Lakers are eliminated from playoff contention.
  • Olympic Host flip-flopper and 6-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstong, annonced he may retire this year after steroid allegations are levied against him earlier in the week.
Something tells me this year's "Douche of the Year" voting is going to be close!

C'mon, Armstrong was already talking retirement after #6. He's said all along that he'd probably do one more TdF, either this year or next. Whether or not he wins a seventh, he then wants to concentrate on passing the mantle and having fun -- supporting other Discovery riders, entering more classic races, perhaps even trying for the hour record. And he is riding this year: hardly shying from the spotlight.

BTW, Bryant Gumbel was one of the most insightful guests they've had on. Apparently 5 minutes is the correct dosage.

As bad as Bonds' shoving his kid out in front of the camera was, it's gonna take some kind of robotic other-worldly super-douche to topple Russell Crowe!!

McFlip is right. I think in the last few years, I've grown to assume athletes compulsively lie about everything. Armstrong has every right to retire (especially if he wins it again). Still, I agree with Tony, if it does come out that he was on something, I'm gonna take it hard. Like many people, I'll be crushed with disappointment.

As for Bryant Gum-ball, he was fine except when he said there's no evidence that steroids improve your game. So let's all take them!
